It's Saturday, December 21st, 2013. You're standing outside of 160 Lexington Ave., New York City, watching traffic on East 30th Street zoom by while the biting cold whips the tip of your nose. You bury your face deeper in the turned-up collar of your coat because you know it's all worth it - it'll all be worth it, once these damn doors open to the Dover Street Market's first N.Y. location.
Once they do, run inside - head up to the second floor, past Louis Vuitton's three-month pop-up space situated within a wooden dome meant to simulate the shape of a crinoline skirt. Past the huge multicolored light fixtures. Past the various Comme des Garcons PLAY t-shirts folded on wooden tables.
Now, you've made it. You're finally in the shop space designated for Dover Street Market NY's collaboration with Nike Air Python - a capsule collection designed around the re-release of the Air Python sneaker. An all-black cap, two t-shirts and a varsity jacket with three unmistakable labels on the front sit on multifunctional displays - shelves that can be switched into tables, table legs that can become shelves.
Nike's Matthew Kneller told Style.com that the designs were influenced by the basis of all things Air: basketball.
"From Rucker and West 4th, to Jordan's big games at the garden and Spike Lee, New York is about basketball," Kneller said. "For us, it made sense to open up in Dover Street Market with a legendary sneaker, the Nike Air Python DSM."
Take a look at the pieces above, then head over to Dover Street Market NYC.
